Open Doors, Log In — One Card Does It All: HID's FIDO Solution Helps Enterprises Say Goodbye to Password Fatigue

HID has launched a new generation of FIDO-certified products, combining FIDO authentication credentials with an Enterprise Passkey Management (EPM) system to help organizations more easily adopt passwordless Passkey authentication and overcome real-world deployment and management bottlenecks.

According to research from the FIDO Alliance, although 87% of organizations have already begun adopting passkeys, nearly half remain stuck on issues such as complex deployment processes, high implementation costs, and a lack of centralized management preventing them from rolling the technology out at scale.

Why Do We Need to Say Goodbye to Passwords?

In a traditional username-and-password architecture, passwords must be stored on the server. If the server is ever compromised, even encrypted passwords remain at risk of exposure -- the root cause behind the constant stream of phishing attacks and credential theft.

Phishing Attacks Are Relentless:Attackers often impersonate official emails or fake websites to trick users into giving up their passwords, then go on to steal funds, account access, or plant malware.

Management Costs and Security Risk:Employees have to remember a large number of passwords (for area access control, ERP systems, company email, and more), and under the pressure of juggling multiple devices and platforms, they often reuse simple passwords -- turning into an organization's weakest security link.

Difficult Permission Synchronization:Traditional access control and digital systems are usually managed separately. When an employee leaves, it's common to see a gap where "the access card has been deactivated, but the system account can still log in" -- creating a potential security risk.

Say Goodbye to Password Hell: Understand FIDO in 2 Minutes

What Is FIDO?

FIDO(Fast Identity Online) FIDO is an international authentication standard set by the FIDO Alliance. It verifies identity locally using a security key or biometrics before logging into a system, with the goal of replacing traditional usernames and passwords.

If you've ever used Face ID, a fingerprint, or a physical security key to log into Google, a banking app, or a government service, you're already using FIDO technology -- and the now widely adopted passkey is an application built on the FIDO2 standard.

How Does FIDO Work?

FIDO uses asymmetric encryption: when a device is registered, it generates a public-private key pair:

Private Key:Stored in the secure chip of the device or card, and never leaves the device.

Public Key:Sent to and stored on the corresponding system's server. At login, the server issues a challenge, which the device answers using the private key; the system verifies the response using only the public key. Biometric data is never touched in the process, and there is no password that can be stolen.

Advantages of FIDO

Phishing-Resistant: The authentication process is bound to the domain, so a fake website cannot obtain a valid credential. Privacy Protection: Biometric data stays on the device and is never sent to the cloud. Extremely Convenient: Log in instantly -- no more trying to remember capitalization or special characters. Cross-Platform: Supports Windows, macOS, Android, and iOS, among other major platforms.

Built on the FIDO2 standard established by the FIDO Alliance and supported by major platforms such as Apple, Google, and Microsoft, passkeys can sync across devices with user authorization, further enhancing convenience and making the login experience as intuitive as unlocking a phone.

FIDO makes login safer, simpler, and faster, truly putting an end to password hell.
