Train stations are vital transportation hubs in every city. Taipei, for example, handles roughly 500,000 passengers daily and houses multiple transit systems including High Speed Rail, Taiwan Railway, and the MRT. Internal passageways are intricate, and large stations in particular cover vast areas with complex spatial layouts, heavy crowd flow, and a high number of unspecified visitors using the space in diverse ways. This makes rescue operations difficult and highly dangerous when a disaster occurs.

When the video surveillance system was first built, management was split across central government, local government, and private entities, each with different requirements for the system. At the time, surveillance systems were designed around single-host operation, without considering centralized management, a unified interface, or future system expansion. This led to multiple incompatible surveillance system specifications coexisting side by side.

Currently, around 600 IP cameras are deployed across the station and surrounding buildings, with about one-sixth dedicated to fire and smoke detection. Video is transmitted via fiber optics to the disaster prevention center's equipment room, which is equipped with a dedicated CCTV video wall. In this project, Pro-Link used Eocortex's fire and smoke video analytics to provide a fire detection solution for the station's disaster prevention center. When a fire first breaks out in a monitored area, the system immediately captures the surveillance footage and displays the incident on screen, triggering a connected system response within the critical window for extinguishing the fire — preventing the disaster entirely or minimizing the damage.
So how does Eocortex's fire and smoke detection work?
- When a “smoke” or “fire” event is detected, an alert notification is sent immediately
- All events are recorded in the event log for quick searching in the archive
- The module can be integrated with fire alarm or fire suppression systems

Advantages of Using Eocortex Video Analytics Software
- Integrates with existing IP cameras, usingCCTV footage for fire and smoke detection analysis
- Implements an N+M recording redundancy mechanism, with servers backing each other up so the system keeps running even if one server fails
- Viewable on the control center's video wall, integrated and managed through a central monitoring management platform
- Provides video management in a single interface, with the ability to quickly expand with other smart analytics in the future
